United States: Texas state health officials reported 683 measles cases for Friday, which marked a total increase of 20 cases from April 29 as multiple areas reached the 900-point threshold in a nationwide severe outbreak, as reported by Reuters.
National Numbers Raise Concern
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website reports 935 confirmed measles cases among 30 jurisdictions during this current year while documenting 12 outbreaks as of May 1.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services the total measles case count in Gaines County maintained its previous status at 396 cases.
During the outbreak, the health department reported that ninety-nine patients required hospital treatment.

New Mexico health officials announced 67 cases on Friday which reflected an additional case since their previous announcement. Nine out of ten New Mexico cases originate in Lea County which borders Texas’s Gaines County.
The experts predict that the United States stands on the edge of bringing back endemic measles precisely two decades after reaching its eradication milestone, as reported by Reuters.
Illinois public health authorities validated two measles cases that emerged in Cook County on Wednesday.
